LVMH Plans to Build an Ultra-Premium Hotel on Rodeo Drive

Controlled by LVMH, Cheval Blanc Hotels is planning a 115-room luxury hotel designed by Peter Marino on property it owns at the corner of Rodeo Drive and Little Santa Monica Boulevard. In keeping with Rodeo Drive’s international reputation for over-the-top retail glamour, the Cheval Blanc is intended to be a notch above the competition in Beverly Hills’ high-end hotel market, known for such famous hostelries as the Beverly Hills Hotel and the Beverly Wilshire.

Rather than focusing on banquets or conference facilities, LVMH will capitalize on its nearby network of high-end restaurants, spas and retailers to sate guests. Indeed the Louis Vuitton and Dior boutiques just a stone’s throw away on—where else—Rodeo Drive.

The hotel will be designed by star architect Peter Marino, who has previously collaborated with LVMH on projects like the new Louis Vuitton Maisons in London and Seoul. The New York-based designer says the building will have a breathtaking façade of imported French limestone, multi-level landscaping. It will also boast a warm color palette that’s unequivocally SoCal. The challenge for LVMH is that the homes, or multiple homes, of these elite travelers are “spectacular,” Melwani said.

Hyperice, the maker of a vibrating roller used by professional athletes, announced a new massaging device for muscle release that’s targeted for the general population.

Two-and-a-half years after launching the original Vyper roller for elite athletes on Kickstarter and eight months after unveiling the Vyper 2.0, Hyperice released a new product Monday called Hypervolt that looks like a power drill. The Hypervolt, which clocks in as one of Hyperice’s most expensive products, retails for $349, versus $199 for the Vyper 2.0.

The hand-held device weighs 2.5 pounds and features a powerful high-torque motor that’s powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which Hyperice says makes it the first-ever high intensity muscle vibrator that’s accessible to all consumers.

Directed by Jason Hehir, whose previous projects include multiple editions of ESPN’s long-running “30 for 30” series, “The Last Dance” is less an investigation of a sports dynasty’s last flames and more the chronicle of how improbable its survival always was. The goal seems to be to make a definitive account of what that season meant for all involved, regardless of how some of the empirical facts may have changed in the two decades since. Part of that comes across in footage of practice and team travel, largely filmed by a camera crew that was embedded with the Bulls for the season. (Filmed as part of a planned documentary about the team, much of this footage has been effectively stashed away in the league archives.)

Beyond the sportswriters and reporters

“The Last Dance” is essentially asking the audience to be Jordan’s teammate through this ride. You see how his overbearing competitive drive leads to ticks in the win column, and also strains individual relationships along the way. “The Last Dance” isn’t necessarily an evidence-gathering operation, but as the series goes on, the input from teammates, coaches, and members of the Jordan inner circle all seem to ask whether the outcome of June 1998 was worth all the turmoil. For many viewers lifted by the way “The Last Dance” captures the sweep of history, the likely answer will be “yes.”

Collaboration: Adidas X Fashion Designers

Adidas maintains ongoing collaborations with some of the biggest names in the business, from Raf Simons to Kanye West and a gamut of others spanning skateboarding, fashion, and hip-hop. Designer fashion was largely inaccessible to many due to its high price points and elusive nature, but Adidas figured out how to deliver designer products to the masses: sneakers. With Originals as a platform for creative partnerships across categories, adidas has been leading a wave of cross-pollinating collaborations with a wide variety of names.

The crossover between luxury brands and streetwear brands is a story that has been told across the fashion world for a few years now. It is now common to see super upscale luxury products and affordable streetwear products being sold on the same shelves to the same customer. But using fashion week in particular as a stage for its own designs and collections feels like breaking new ground for a brand like Adidas.
